The hemp industry went into a slight frenzy on December 14, 2016 when the DEA issued a final ruling about the coding of marijuana extracts. Many people, including mainstream media outlets, went around proclaiming even hemp-derived hemp extract was now illegal as a Schedule I substance. Not only is this false, it is wrong to misinform people about the safest "drug" we know of, which can be accessed in all 50 states. Hemp extract is non-psychoactive, non-addictive, natural, and legal!
We believe the DEA ruling was not directed at hemp-derived hemp extract, but was just an administrative action related to record keeping for the marijuana industry.
Hemp-derived hemp extract is still legal. Sec. 7606 of the Farm Bill defines hemp as distinct from marijuana and does not treat it as a controlled substance when grown under a compliant state program.
